Introducing the Purchase Order Software Guide

The purpose of this guide is to investigate all of the purchase order software options out there today.  We will dive into not only purchase order software but into all aspects of the retail supply chain.  These technologies will include, but not be limited to, purchasing and supply chain management, small business inventory software, vendor managed inventory, edi outsourcing, and all other technologies that will advance the burgeoning business on their way towards a lean supply chain.

We will offer reviews of the existing purchase order systems out there for the small and medium sized business.  We will try to work in equal time for desktop and web based applications with the goal being to reveal the best bang for your buck for our group of SMB retailers and manufacturers.  In most cases we will try to use a benchmark for these reviews with a very recognizable brand like Quickbooks.

This guide will also keep up to date on all of the latest technologies and methodologies involved in maintaining a lean supply chain.  We will be diligent in defining the latest buzzwords while taking an in-depth look at the inner workings of the latest supply chain methodologies.  We will look at the best practices for long established logistic processes while also investigating some of the newer methodologies, especially in retail, like supply chain collaboration.

We will also explore the three major human touch points of the retail supply chain: the retailer, the manufacturer and the rep.  How does technology, or the lack of it, effect each of these roles?  Does technology help or hinder the human relationships that have long been the hallmark of the retail supply chain?  We will answer these questions and many more.

Finally, we will dive into the DIY community – those brave retailers and manufacturers that have taken it upon themselves to implement lean supply chain technologies using the various open source B2B and EDI standards that are floating around out there like RosettaNet, Oasis, the OIA B2B working group and many more.  We will try to gain insight on their success and failures in doing it yourself.
